Flight Controls

General Description

FLY-BY-WIRE - The A319 and A320 incorporate a fly-by-wire flight control system. Flight control computers interpret the pilot’s commands and move the flight control surfaces as necessary to achieve the desired response. The flight control computers also provide flight envelope protection; they do not permit flight outside of the safe flight envelope in normal law.

ELECTRICAL FAILURE - In case of complete electrical failure, the pilot can manually control the stabilizer via a mechanical connection (pitch trim wheel) to the stabilizer hydraulic jack. Rudder control can also be controlled manually via mechanical connections (rudder pedals) to the rudder hydraulic jack. Loss of all hydraulics results in complete loss of all flight controls.
